Recognise Substance
By taking a small sample of a substance and testing it in a lab an Alchemist might be able to determine what it is. The following formula is used, and one roll is made per day spent in the lab. Possible bonuses and results are listed on the following table; a roll of 1 is always a complete failure.

(Alchemist's Specialism Level x Lab's Rating) + (Mages Int over 14) + d20

Bonus  
+ 5 Alchemist has previously made up a batch of this substance.
+ 10 Alchemist has already, successfully researched a formula for this substance.
Result Explanation
14 or less (1 Rolled) The substance is well beyond the Alchemist's ability. No result is possible.
15-19 The Alchemist has some general idea, more work may reveal more.
20-24 The Alchemist has identified the substance correctly.
25 or more The Alchemist has been so successful that they are well on the way to being able to work out the formulae. + 10 on any research roll (see below).

After a substance has been successfully recognised the Alchemist is entitled to a 50 XP award.
