Astro
A popular defence of the 1NT opening. The calls are:
Double |
shows at least 13-14 high card points and a decent 5+ card suit |
2 |
shows at least 4 hearts and another suit |
2 |
shows at least 4 spades and another suit |
2
2 ,
3
3 |
are all natural, but limited, due to the failure to double |
Note: With 5-4 or 4-5 in the majors, use the bid that guarantees
the 4-card suit!
After a double advancer can assess the side's defensive potential and pass if he has
a good 8 or more points.Otherwise, he bids
2 as an artificial waiting bid,
and doubler will then bid his suit.Or pass if the suit is clubs.Advancer
can alternatively bid a decent 6-card or longer suit that can play opposite a
singleton.
After2 , or
2 , bidding 2 of the
implied major usually promises 4 or more cards. Otherwise, advancer makes the
artificial bid of 2
over 2 , and
2 over
2 . If that
turns out to be Astro bidder's long suit, he passes. Jumps by advancer are invitational.
