Puppet Stayman
A variation of Stayman where the 2
response to partner’s 1NT opening bid forces opener
to rebid 2
(except to show a five-card major suit), then responder continues in the following manner:
2 |
shows a four card spade suit |
2 |
shows a four card heart suit |
| 2NT | shows both four-card majors and invitational strength |
| 3NT | shows both four-card majors and game-going strength |
The advantage of this procedure is to allow partner to become declarer without divulging any information about opener’s hand. The defenders’ task are thus more difficult. A similar treatment may be used over a 2NT opening bid.
